Breast Cancer Awareness Month—an important time to focus on breast health, early detection, and ensuring access to care for everyone.
Why Breast Cancer Awareness Matters
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. In the U.S., 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. The good news? Early detection can make a big difference in treatment success. This month is a perfect reminder for all women—especially those in underserved communities—to take charge of their health through regular screenings.
Early Detection Saves Lives
Getting regular screenings, like mammograms, is key to finding breast cancer early. When caught in its early stages, the 5-year survival rate for breast cancer can be as high as 99%. Unfortunately, many women, especially those in low-income populations, face barriers to accessing these screenings. High costs, lack of insurance, and other challenges often prevent them from getting the care they need.
At CLCHC, we are committed to breaking down these barriers. We offer
affordable clinical breast exams and education on breast health. No one should skip a screening due to financial hardship—we’re here to make sure everyone has access to care.
Know the Warning Signs of Breast Cancer
While regular screenings are crucial, knowing the signs and symptoms of breast cancer is just as important. Here are some warning signs to look out for:
- A lump or thickening in the breast or underarm
- Changes in breast size, shape, or appearance
- Unexplained discharge from the nipple
- Persistent pain in the breast or nipple

How We Support Our Community

- Low-cost or free mammogram referrals: We provide mammogram referrals for eligible patients who might not otherwise be able to afford them.
